In 1968 I made a painting (now in the collection
of the Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, DC) titled
'Veracity' which was a very loose variation on
Vermeer's picture, 'The Artist in the Studio' at the
Vienna Knusthistorisches Museum. Of course, I
replaced Vermeer's artist, presumably a self portrait,
with an image of myself. This color lithograph
is taken from that painting but is almost as far from
it as my painting was from the Vermeer. The print
was made at the Tamarind Lithography workshop
in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is one of a group I
made there in which I tried to get a full chromatic
range including optical blacks from press runs of
only red, yellow and blue.
