When I walk around with my eyes really
open, there's sometimes a moment when
what I see is intensified by an extra
dimension - -a sudden feeling that the
details in front of me and their relation to
each other crystallize the truth about a
place more than they garble it. Nearly every
print I've done is an attempt to portray a
place seen at such a moment. "Heller's Bakery,"
with its return to long-time favorite imagery
and its fragments of my own reflection, may be
a kind of self-portrait as well.
