More inward-than outward evolving the
large 'Self portrait 1963' wants to reveal
what is - and remains - unchanging in me.
Self portraits - drawings, paintings and
later prints - appear again and again in my
work since the time when I was a boy.
The deep black aquatint lines of this self
portrait, their shapes, rhythm and inter-
related directions give life and expression
to many of my landscapes - prints - here
they create 'the landscape of my face.'
